The province of Ontario has made a list of tech occupations that will be given preference when selecting candidates for immigration.
Targeting specific candidates will help solve the problem of labour shortages in the technology sector of this Canadian province.
New Express Entry draws will focus on six specific National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes under the Ontario Immigration Program (OINP)’s Human Capital Priorities Stream:
- Software engineers and designers (NOC 2173)
- Computer programmers and interactive media developers (NOC 2174)
- Computer engineers (except software engineers and designers) (NOC 2147)
- Web designers and developers (NOC 2175)
- Database analysts and data administrators (NOC 2172)
- Computer and information systems managers (NOC 0213)
Candidates must meet the requirements of the Human Capital Priorities Stream, as well as have experience in one of the occupations indicated above. Immigration applicants selected within the Express Entry pool receive a notice of interest. After that, they have 45 days to submit a full application.
To help Ontario employers fill vacant positions, the Ontario government has created a Business Immigration Services. Within this service, specialists select the most appropriate immigrant candidates for employers and inform candidates about the application processing times.
