Now the list of occupations needed by the provincial labour market includes more than 200 professions.
Saskatchewan has expanded the list of occupations in demand from 19 to over 200 professions within the Occupation In-Demand and Saskatchewan Express Entry streams. These are the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP)’s popular streams that do not require a job offer or work experience in Canada to apply for permanent residence.
One of these streams, Saskatchewan Express Entry, has been created for candidates who have a profile in the Express Entry system. Applicants from the Express Entry pool who get a nomination from Saskatchewan are given an additional 600 points to their score in the federal system — and this fact virtually guarantees permanent residence in Canada.
The other stream, Occupation In-Demand, is available for applicants who are not in the Express Entry pool. If they get a nomination from the province, these candidates apply for permanent residence outside the federal system, and processing the application takes more time.
Both immigration streams require work experience in occupations in demand categorized as NOC skill levels 0, A or B. Currently, candidates with work experience in more than 200 occupations can apply. However, instead of listing the occupations in demand, the province indicates only 129 excluded professions.
Candidates under both streams who are planning to immigrate to Saskatchewan need to register an Expression of Interest application.
The provincial government is certain that the availability of more occupations under these streams will benefit the Saskatchewan labour market, as well as highly qualified candidates who dream of living in Canada.
