Foreigners with work experience in certain occupations can obtain permanent residency in Canada through the Skilled Trades Stream of Ontario provincial program.
The Skilled Trades Stream is part of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). Candidates are selected through the Express Entry system.
To be able to immigrate through this stream, the applicant must meet the following requirements:
- Have an active Express Entry profile and receive a Notification of Interest from OINP representatives
- Have at least one year of full-time work experience (or the equivalent in part-time work) in Ontario in NOC groups 633, 72, 73 or 82
- Have required licences to do the job, if applicable
- Have a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score of 5 or higher for English or French in all four language abilities (reading, speaking, listening, writing) and provide language test results (TEF or TCF for French and IELTS or CELPIP for English)
- Be able to support themselves and dependent family members (have savings, get salary in Ontario or have a job offer in Ontario)
- Show ties to Ontario (working, having a job offer, studying, volunteering, renting or owning property, visiting the province, having colleagues, relatives or friends in Ontario)
- Pay the C$1,500 processing fee
